Our Story

I learnt the art of pattern design and dressmaking from both my mother and grandmother, both incredibly talented seamstresses, and have been sewing since a young age. Drawn to vintage sewing patterns and traditional tailoring techniques, dressmaking has always been a particularly special process for me; a process of exploring the notion of femininity, of uncovering new silhouettes and recognising the skill and patience required in the process of handmaking the dresses we wear.

Inspired by vintage sewing patterns, particularly the silhouettes of 1970s nightwear, and the dresses my mother handmade for me and my sister when we were young girls, the world of Benjamin Fox is one of nostalgia and romanticism.

Founded in 2020, I started the brand after graduating with an LLB from UCL. The majority of our pieces are handmade, either by myself in my North Norfolk studio, or by one of a small team of skilled seamstresses and dressmakers across the UK. Speciality items like our furniture, soft furnishings and knitwear are sourced from makers and artisans based within the UK who share similar values and the same passion for quality.

Our most important focus is on working with fabrics of the highest quality. We work with high quality, unique and beautiful cloth, the majority of which originates from the UK and Europe and is reclaimed, deadstock, vintage or otherwise leftover.

The majority of our pieces are offered on a made to order basis, a process which is very much at the heart of how we work; not only because it evokes the time old traditional way that seamstresses and tailors have always worked, according to the client’s specifications and measurements, but it also reduces the possibility of being left with excess stock. We also offer a small ever-changing collection of ready to ship one - off and vintage items made from fabric remnants.

Welcome to Benjamin Fox.
